40 Days of Renewal Daily Bible Reading Schedule

Starting Wednesday, Feb. 29 you'll read the life of Jesus chronologically in 40 Days. Primarily we'll be reading from Mark, who focuses on Jesus northern Galilean ministry, and John, whose focus is His southern Judean ministry. Reading them in a timeline like this gives us a fuller picture. And to start off, we'll include Matthew's and Luke's accounts of the incarnation and childhood events of Jesus.

Keeping a Prayer and Bible Reading Journal

During 40 Days of Renewal you'll want to keep a prayer and Bible reading journal. A journal reminds you of the things you're praying for and reminds you of how God answers those prayers and helps you digest the truths of Scripture as you read them.

I suggest you get a small notebook of some kind and use half for your prayer journal and half for your Bible reading notes.

Your prayer journal page might look like this:

Date Prayer Request Date and How Answered
3/2 To make my insurance payment 3/11 My tax refund check came today with more than enough to pay it!

Your Bible reading journal page might look like this:

Date Passage God's Truth from this passage to meditate
on today or live out today.
2/29 Mt. 1 God's promises are kept. He promised the Messiah would come from David's family, and the genealogy proves it happened.

Tips for Making the Most of 40 Days of Renewal

Daily Bible Reading

· Approach your reading with expectation, knowing that this is God speaking to you through this book.

· Reserve the same time in your daily schedule to be consistent. Allow enough time to read one chapter.

· Find a quiet place where you can concentrate, meditate and reflect on what you’ve read.

· Use a notebook to record what God is teaching you about Him, about you and about others.

· Consider reading together with your children or with your spouse if you’re married. And let the kids read!

Keeping a Prayer Journal

· In a notebook, record the date and the requests you are making to God in prayer.

· On a separate page, record the date and how God answered each prayer.

· Keep your journal with your Bible.

· After each reading, pray to be like Jesus, or like someone who showed faith in Him in that chapter. Give Him permission to make the changes you need in your life.

40 Days of Renewal in Connection Groups

· Be sure everyone in your group has a copy of this schedule and encourage everyone to participate.

· Reserve a few minutes each week in your group to let members share one thing that God is doing in them through His Word and prayer. “How is God renewing us?”

· Pray together for renewal as individuals, as a group, as a church.

Why 40 Days of Renewal?

As we have seen in the life of Josiah, the catalyst for renewal was the re-discovery of God’s Word. When he heard it read, it spoke to him in a powerful way. Then he wanted to know what to do next, and God showed him.

God wants to bring us renewal each and every day. With this daily Bible reading schedule you’ll follow Jesus’ life from His incarnation to His ascension, and in chronological order.

Doing this together as a church gives us focus. Suddenly we’re literally all on the same page! And with one united voice crying the same prayer to God, “Renew me, Lord!”.

It will also give us a greater appreciation for our Savior’s suffering, death and resurrection as we walk with Him to the cross and to new life.

So as you read and pray and share with others, do so with the hope and expectancy that God is renewing you by His Spirit day by day.
