Great Sunday...really looking forward to the challenge over the next couple of weeks to allow God to help me live a more holy life.

I really missed being there yesterday. I heard it was a great morning from a number of people.
ReplyDeleteI will guess it is the one pertaining to the Sabbeth. Not real sure, but it could be. I was moved by a couple of things this past Sunday, one was how CJolly was covered most excellently by AJolly. What a great job.

Terry wins! "Remember the Sabbath" is the only one not repeated in the NT.
ReplyDeleteMany mistakenly assume that Sunday is the Sabbath. But the Sabbath was the 7th day that actually began at sundown on Friday and continued through sundown Saturday.
As Christians our "rest" is found in Christ. He is the fulfillment of the Law. That doesn't mean we don't need a day off each week to rest and enjoy. We do.
Paul wrote to the Galatians (4:10-11) that observing "days" as a part of your attempt to be righteous is in vain. If you read the 4th chapter you'll see that the context is Christians trying to keep the law.
So, why do we worship on Sundays? First, because Sunday is the day of Jesus' resurrection. Second, because the first century church did (although they met daily, too). But it's not a legal requirement of God's for us to meet on Sundays.
