A couple new songs today. "In Christ" was about all we have as our relationship with Jesus. "You are God Alone" was a declaration that in our lives He is our One and only, deserving of our worship.
Today we were back to Moses' story and the idolatry that began soon after they pledged their devotion to Yahweh.
And don't forget. The Connection Group party begins this week!

What a blessing it was today to see one of our youth have a totally not about me attitude and stepping up to allow all members of the team to worship in "Big Church" today- Thank you Alex B!!

Idolatry is something that we must be prepared to confront every day of our lives.
For me, the two new songs--the lyrics and performance--were mind-blowing and spirit-lifting. In fact, I thought the entire event was special. The set mood was reflective which worked well with the conviction I'm sure we all experienced, as we all are caught up in idol-worship of one kind or another throughout the seasons of our life.

ReplyDeleteYouth group started out at Bonnet St this afternoon but quickly moved back to NHC as the storm rolled in. Great bunch of students and leaders and we had fun partying and playing games in the big lobby. I enjoy looking around and seeing adult leaders at table full of students playing a game. We even did our Bible study out there in the Big Lobby. I won't lie, I'm looking forward to the day we have the youth room finished.
I gotta say, "Poor Aaron." He was never the leader God wanted for that job. Moses begged God to let Aaron take over part of what Moses was chosen to do, right from the beginning. Aaron probably did the best he could, but wasn't right for it. Yesterday's scripture reinforces to all of us... find out what God wants ME to do, and DO it! If someone else is fillng my shoes, they won't fit just right.

Before we pity Aaron, keep in mind that while all this calf stuff is getting ready to happen God has appointed Aaron (Ex. 28:1)as Israel's High Priest - top dog when it comes to maintaining national holiness. The breastplate he will wear is to be inscribed with the words HOLINESS TO THE LORD. So, Aaron IS in the role God has planned for him.
This wasn't a case of round peg in a square hole. This was a case of compromising convictions to please people. And as a result God was displeased.

ReplyDeleteHere's another thought: If Aaron wasn't responsible to be the leader in charge during Moses' absence, who was?
Is it likely that God left them leaderless while meeting with Moses?
If not, certainly we can't fault Moses for not being there. He was on the mountain at God's directive.
So I really do think Aaron blew it. Yet, God continued to maintain His call on Aaron's life as High Priest. That's grace and proof that He is the God of the second chance.
...although this won't be the last time Aaron gets himself and Israel into trouble...
