Hello everyone!

What’s new with us?

Well, in January we had our Wycliffe Brazil Branch conference. It was an anniversary celebration of what the Lord has done over the 50 years Wycliffe has been in Brazil. We watched videos of the old days, and marveled at how times have changed and the Lord has been faithful. It was also a time of saying good-bye to some of our colleagues.

In February, we flew to Venezuela to survey the Tovar colony. We had been told that there were German people living in an isolated valley. Although they had immigrated some 200 years ago, people told us they did not understand Spanish. Our Venezuelan colleagues thought they might be in need of some Scripture and evangelism in their language.

While in Colombia, we had taught Braulio and Jacky, a Venezuelan couple, the principles of survey. This couple was eager for us to come and do some on-the-ground training with them. We thought this Tovar area would be a good, safe place to survey together.

Braulio and Jacky have been working independently for 14 years, in a remote indigenous village, without a mission. They were feeling very lonely. We had a wonderful time of fellowship together and the training went well. Most Tovar people turned out to speak only Spanish, but some spoke a dialect of German as well. It was pretty clear they needed the Gospel. Although they were prosperous, suicide rates among the youth were high.

Sandy has been doing some nursing among our colleagues. She has been appointed as the health care facilitator for the Brazil branch of our mission. She provides advice and nursing care to our members and their families.

Our daughter Raquel turned 16! We had two big parties for her – one with her school chums, and one with her church friends. Then, she went off to a church retreat. We sure are enjoying raising her. Jillian is in the second year of a 5 year Education program at the University of Victoria. We miss each other so much.
